INTERNSHIP

The FIU Honors College upTech program supported students with disabilities in skills training and active engagement in both communicative and technological disciplines through project-based learning. The program was partnered with FIU ProjectPantherLIFE, which provided "a structured, and individualized curriculum and related program and community experiences focusing on academics and instruction, social activities, employment, and independent living." Students in the UpTech program were able to understand research and entrepreneurial principles, effectively utilize technological resources, and build professional and leadership skills that aided them to become self-sufficient and knowledgeable in a variety of global disciplines such as business, education, and engineering. Upon completion of the program, the students were then able to apply their learned skills through locally-based internships that were of interest to them, such as the American Spanish language broadcast television network, Univision.
